20 jobs to come to district as business given green light to convert Sunday School

A PROPERTY company’s plans to re-locate to Bradford, and bring 20 jobs to the district, have been approved.

Brighouse-based Highbury Homes, a building and project management company, has been granted permission to convert the former Sunday School on Westfield Lane in Wyke into new office space.

Although next to the listed Westfield URC, the former Sunday School is not a listed building.

Highbury Homes’ application said external alterations to the building would be limited to new rooflights, while an internal mezzanine will be created inside.

The application said: “There will be 24 members of staff, with management and surveyors working from home and on site. Approximately 20 members of staff will be office based.

“This proposed change of use will keep the appearance of the existing building and ensure is preservation.”

Approving the change of use this week, planning officers said: “The application would result in the creation of 384 sqm of office space. The proposal would also result in the creation of 20 full time posts in the area, with the company relocating from an existing office outside the Bradford district.

“The proposal is thus felt to accord with the Bradford Core Strategy which states that the Council will support the delivery of at least 1,600 new jobs annually through the supply of at least 135 ha of developable employment land.”
