Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann has launched a unique public outreach initiative by sending personal letters to recent recipients of govt jobs in the state, seeking their feedback on the hiring process. One such letter, now circulating on social media, asks whether the job was secured purely on merit or involved any bribe or recommendation. It also encourages recipients to compare their experience with job-seeking under previous Congress and Akali Dal govts. The move is seen as an effort to reinforce the govt’s commitment to transparent, merit-based employment. The letter is addressed to Gurtinder Singh from Bhariwal village in Batala, Gurdaspur. In it, the chief minister congratulates Gurtinder and his family, then poses direct questions: “Did you need any recommendation to get this govt job? Did you have to pay money? Did you get the job without recommendation and without money?”The letter continues with a political comparison: “Before us, Congress and SAD-BJP took turns to rule the state. I want you to tell me whether jobs were available without bribe or recommendation during their govts? Do you believe that this is the first time in Punjab that children from common families are getting jobs on the basis of merit?”To receive responses, the letter provides a dedicated WhatsApp number, offering a direct and modern channel for citizen feedback.
