Who's on Indianapolis' 53-man roster?

The Colts have cut their roster to 53 players but it won’t be these 53 players for long. In addition to a surprise cut in former second-round pick JuJu Brents, the Colts are working out cornerback Mike Hilton and will surely be looking for help at several positions off the waiver wire, including linebacker and offensive tackle.

The Indianapolis Star is bringing you live updates for every roster move ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man deadline. Follow along.

Waived/injured

Land had appeared in 17 games with the Colts over the last two seasons with 7 sacks, 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss. He played 78 snaps on defense last season, 49 on special teams.

Johnson is another practice squad target for the Colts.

The Colts brought Chris Lammons back after injuries to the defensive backfield but have waived him.

The wide receiver was productive in the preseason and is a practice squad target.

Washington is a practice squad target.

French appeared in all 17 games with the team in 2023 but was injured last season.

The Colts have put linebacker Jaylon Carlies on injured reserve with a designation to return. He has to miss four games but the expectation is he’ll be back shortly after that. A converted safety, the Colts have been counting on him to be a coverage linebacker but he has struggled to stay on the field.

Though not a surprise it’s notable that the Colts are waiving ultra-athletic tight end Jelani Woods. The former college quarterback flashed his ability in 2022 with a 12.5 yards per catch average and 3 touchdowns on 25 catches but he missed the past two season due to injuries and the team seemed to have run out of patience with him.

Colts waive players ahead of NFL roster cut deadline

  • CB Alex Johnson, who was on the Colts‘ practice squad in 2024, made nine tackles and broke up four passes in the preseason. A possible return to the practice squad is uncertain.
  • DT Devonta Davis, an undrafted rookie from Florida Atlantic, recorded three tackles this preseason
  • LB Joseph Vaughn, an undrafted rookie from UCLA, had two preseason tackles.
  • LB Solomon DeShields, an undrafted rookie from Texas A&M, spent the entire summer with the Colts and made six preseason tackles, but he never rose to the second unit in a wide-open linebacker competition.
  • DE Desmond Little, an undrafted rookie from UAB, made six preseason tackles.
  • RB Nate Noel, who signed late in training camp as an undrafted rookie from Missouri, rushed seven times for 63 yards in the preseason finale.
  • TE Maximilian Mang, a native of Germany, is expected back on the practice squad as the team’s international player exemption under the NFL’s Player Pathway program.
  • WR Blayne Taylor, an undrafted free agent from Abilene Christian, caught one pass for 12 yards in the preseason.
