BCCI to get new president on September 28 as elections in AGM in Mumbai

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold its 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 11:30 am on 28 September 2025 at its headquarters in Mumbai, with the election of office-bearers, including the president, topping the agenda.

In a communique to state associations, secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that polls will be conducted for the posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer. Representatives of the Apex Council from the General Body and the Indian Cricketers’ Association will also be elected.

The agenda further includes the election of two members to the IPL Governing Council, along with one representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association. Polls will also be conducted for the Women’s Premier League Committee. In addition, the Ombudsman and Ethics Officer will be appointed, while the Standing Committee, Cricket Committee and Umpires’ Committee will be constituted on the same day.

Ahead of the AGM, a high-level meeting is expected among the BCCI leadership to discuss and finalise candidates. While the posts of Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer are likely to see incumbents continue, elections will be required for the positions of President and Vice-President.

The contest for the top posts remains wide open. For the presidency, no decision has yet been taken, with both a former player and a cricket administrator under consideration. Current Vice-President Rajeev Shukla is regarded as a leading contender. According to sources, three scenarios are being discussed — he could continue as Vice-President, be elevated to BCCI President, or assume charge as IPL Chairman. While the most likely outcome appears to be his continuation in the current role, there is said to be a 60-40 chance of his promotion to president.

Within the IPL Governing Council, the position could see the return of former BCCI treasurer Anirudh Choudhury. From Bengal, Avishek Dalmiya, presently a member of the IPL Governing Council, is also in contention. Final decisions, however, will hinge on the discussions at the leadership meeting.
