Career Connections of Western Nebraska is proud to announce the return of Career Cabs, an experiential career exploration event for 10th-grade students across the Nebraska Panhandle. Now in its third year, Career Cabs provides students with the opportunity to experience firsthand the workplaces of career fields they are interested in — while connecting with employers who are actively seeking future workforce talent.
This fall, Career Cabs will take place in three regional hubs:
Chadron – September 24
Scottsbluff/Gering – October 22
Sidney – November 19
Hosted at Chadron State College, Western Nebraska Community College, and Sidney High School, each hub will serve as a central gathering point for 10th-grade students and school counselors from 23 public school districts in the 11 counties of the Panhandle.
Over the first two years, more than 1,250 students, over 100 employers and 100 volunteers have participated in Career Cabs. This fall, 600 more sophomores will explore career pathways, experience real work environments, and engage directly with employers about skills and education requirements, and career opportunities available in the region.
“Career Cabs is a unique and impactful opportunity for students to visualize a future for themselves right here in the Panhandle,” said Jordan Diedrich, Executive Director of TCD. “We’re helping young people make informed career choices and build stronger connections between local schools and our employers in the region.”
The program supports a key goal of Career Connections of Western Nebraska —to help more young adults and families stay, work, and thrive in the Panhandle by linking education to regional workforce opportunities.
Reflecting on the success of previous Career Cabs, one student shared, “My favorite thing about the Career Cabs experience is seeing all the different types of jobs and learning more about ways I can succeed in the career I want to have.”
