Lake Land College to host Career Day for local high school students | WIBQ The Talk Station

MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— Lake Land College will be hosting its annual Career Day to let local high school juniors and seniors get a taste of the future.

The event is designed to let juniors and seniors learn about local rewarding career pathways. Each year, the school welcomes around 1,200 high school students from across 25 school districts who attend the event. At Career Day, high school students are given the option to choose from more than 150 sessions to attend that cover a wide range of career fields.

Sessions are offered in various lengths of time, from 20 to 50 minutes, to provide either basic or in-depth looks at high-demand careers. Some of the fields being explored include:

  • agriculture
  • health care
  • business
  • information technology
  • cosmetology
  • humanities and arts
  • communications
  • math
  • science
  • engineering
  • education
  • criminal justice
  • human services
  • psychology
  • sociology
  • political science
  • history
  • automotive
  • construction
  • technology
  • leadership
  • success in college

“This event is the perfect place for students to ask questions, learn about careers, and receive insightful guidance from local professionals in their respective careers,” said Peighton Hinote, Coordinator for Student Communication & Initiatives.

An Illinois Regional College Fair will also be on campus as part of the Career Day event. This fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will provide students with the opportunity to meet with representatives of nearly 50 schools across the nation and ask questions about majors, admissions requirements, financial aid, student life, and more. Students can choose to attend the college fair before or after their scheduled sessions, or choose to register time at the fair as one of their sessions.
