The Mariners control their fate for the first time in 2 1/2 months.

The Mariners on Wednesday look to extend their win streak to nine games. They’ve won nine consecutive games just six times in their history. Their best win streaks are 15 (2001) and 14 (2022). Their best win streak last year was four, which they did seven times.

The Mariners ongoing streak has them back atop the AL West for the first time since June 2, though they share that spot with the Astros at the moment. The Astros play the Red Sox at 4:10 p.m. PDT. The Mariners could stand alone by the end of the evening.

There have been just seven streaks of nine or more wins in MLB this season. The Brewers moved their ongoing streak to 12 games Wednesday afternoon. They had an 11-game streak in July (which the Mariners snapped with a 1-0 win in Seattle) and an eight-game streak in May. Good job, Brewers.

Logan Gilbert gets the start for the Mariners on Wednesday. His peripherals are the best they’ve ever been and suggest he’s one of the top starting pitchers in baseball. His 35.1% strikeout rate leads MLB, and his 16.0% swinging strike rate is second behind only Tarik Skubal. He also ranks in the top 10 by both FIP and xERA. That said, Gilbert hasn’t made it through seven innings since Opening Day; he pitched seven or more innings 10 times last season.

Lefty Trevor Rogers takes the mound for the Orioles and will face the Mariners “there’s a lefty starter” mishmash. Rogers currently leads MLB in ERA (1.44) but has only thrown 62.1 innings in 2025. His peripherals don’t look quite as good, and he’s had some favorable luck with avoiding homers and stranding runners. His .212 BABIP allowed is also the lowest in MLB right now.
