Theoretical degrees


The chasm between our traditional education system and the demands of the modern global economy is widening. While we take pride in being one of the youngest nations in the world, this ‘demographic dividend’ is at risk of becoming a liability. Despite thousands of students graduating annually, a significant number remain unemployed or underemployed. The primary culprit is not a lack of degrees but a lack of marketable skills. Our curriculum remains heavily theoretical, often ignoring the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence, data analytics and digital literacy that now define the international job market.


The frustration among the youth is palpable, leading to increased ‘brain drain’ as our brightest minds seek opportunities abroad. To counter this, the government and private sector must collaborate to integrate vocational training and digital soft skills into the mainstream curriculum. We need fewer rote- learners and more problem-solvers.


Investing in the youth is not merely a social obligation; it is an economic necessity. If we fail to equip our young generation with the tools of the future today, we are effectively compromising the nation’s progress tomorrow.
