A note from Scott: Voting to determine the winners of the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards officially began today, Aug. 18, which is why you are suddenly seeing coverage of nominees everywhere — including a new episode of my Awards Chatter podcast with Seth Rogen of Apple TV+’s The Studio — and will see a ton more dropping until the close of voting at 10pm PT nine days from now, on Aug. 27.
Since we last checked in, contenders and their backers have been leaving no stone unturned. Noah Wyle of HBO Max’s The Pitt threw out the first pitch at a Dodgers game and then, along with his castmates, mingled with press in a suite; the same network’s Hacks delivered lunch from Joan’s on Third to media outlets. Apple TV+, meanwhile, is comping cold-pressed juice to anyone who shows up at an L.A.-area Erewhon and, at the checkout counter, quotes Severance (“The work is mysterious and important”) or The Studio (“Thank you, Sal Saperstein”). Fifteen-year-old Owen Cooper, the breakout from Netflix’s Adolescence, who is poised to become one of the youngest Emmy winners ever, was feted at a BAFTA garden party. Various shows are being promoted not just on billboards and bus stops but also on valet tickets and pizza boxes. And the list goes on.
Will any of it shift the outcome of a single Emmy? We’ll never know for sure. But after spending a lot of time, effort and money making shows and getting them nominated, almost everyone seems game to spend a little more trying to get across the finish line.
Below, you can find my latest read of the race in several dozen of the highest-profile categories.

His projections are arrived at by screening shows, analyzing campaigns, consulting voters and studying relevant history and stats.
