Morocco is the first African nation to have already secured its qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Head coach Walid Regragui praised his squad after sealing qualification on Saturday night.
Morocco showed no mercy on Saturday night against Niger. The match was one-sided: a complete domination by the Atlas Lions, who dismantled their opponents 5-0. They cemented their near-unassailable lead in Group E, becoming the first African team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

“We played the match well and tried to control the tempo from the very start. It’s true that our opponent’s sending-off made things easier for us, but I did notice a bit of slackening, which is natural at the start of the sporting season,” Regragui explained after the game.
He continued: “Congratulations to the players—six matches, six consecutive victories. Six matches, six wins, even against teams that park ten men behind the ball. It’s the start of the season for the players, hamdulillah, I’m satisfied. We’re qualified for the World Cup, now we’ll focus on the AFCON.” The Moroccan coach also made sure to highlight his own role and responsibility.
“I want all the pressure to be on me. If we win, they’ll say it’s the players who brought us the cup. If we lose, it’s my fault. That’s life as a coach,” Regragui concluded.
