Alexander J. Means is Associate Professor and former Chair of the Department of Educational Foundations at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. His interdisciplinary research draws on critical traditions in the social sciences and humanities and focuses on the intersections of educational policy, political economy, technology, and the cultural politics of education, with particular attention to how education relates to questions of power, inequality, and social transformation. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Review of Education, Pedagogy, and Cultural Studies, an international peer-reviewed journal published by Taylor & Francis. His most recent book isTeaching Against the Machine: Critical Pedagogy in an Era of Artificial Intelligence (Bloomsbury 2026).
