DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and Durham Tech Community College are celebrating a new partnership to streamline pathways into the life sciences industry.
The new agreement aligns Durham Tech’s associate in Applied Science programs with bachelor’s degrees in NCCU’s College of Health and Sciences, enabling students to transfer credits seamlessly and avoid unnecessary coursework.
Nearly 300 students who went to Durham Tech now attend NCCU, said Sharon Oliver, Ed.D., associate vice chancellor for enrollment management.
“This partnership represents a bold step in expanding access to high-demand life sciences careers,” said NCCU Chancellor Karrie Dixon. “It ensures students can continue their education and enter high-growth, high-wage positions in this thriving industry.”
North Carolina’s life sciences industry has grown by 23 percent since 2019, surpassing 100,000 jobs in 2023 and ranking no. 7 nationwide.
