Dream11, a major fantasy sports company, has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that it will discontinue its title sponsorship of the Indian cricket team following the passage of the ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025’ by the central government, which led to the shutdown of their real money games operations.The new government bill has effectively banned real money gaming services and related advertisements, severely impacting the primary revenue stream of fantasy sports companies in India.
In 2023, the BCCI announced a deal with Dream11 as the lead sponsor for Team India. Dream11 replaced BYJU’s, whose contract ended in March that year, and had signed the agreement with BCCI for a period of three years.Dream11 has a 2023-2026 contract of USD 44 million (Rs 358 crore) for being the title sponsor of the Indian cricket team. My11Circle, an official IPL partner, committed Rs 625 crore in February 2024 for a deal valid till 2028.Dream11 is among India’s largest advertisers. In FY23, its parent company Dream Sports, spent about Rs 2,964 crore on advertising and promotions, a 37 per cent increase over the previous year. The new law is expected to significantly disrupt the advertising market.According a report in the Economic Times, the fantasy sports platforms collectively spend over ₹5,000 crore annually on marketing and advertising.

BCCI will ensure not to indulge with any such organisations ahead in future,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia told ANI.
