Social Media Fakes Now Circulating CT Lottery 'Scam' App: Officials

CONNECTICUT — CT Lottery officials are warning players to be on the lookout for fraudulent websites and apps posing as official CT Lottery platforms.

The websites and apps look real, but they’re not, officials said.

“The security of our players is a top priority and we will do everything we can to protect them,” CT Lottery President and CEO Frank Suarez said.

The fake ads have been appearing primarily on Facebook and Instagram. They illegally feature the CT Lottery’s logo, scratch and draw game images, app icons, and other Connecticut imagery in an attempt to trick users. officials said.

When clicked, the ads direct victims to third-party sites that prompt them to register and provide banking information — including requests for cryptocurrency, officials said.

“If you spot one of these ads on your Facebook, Instagram, or another social media platform, report it immediately through that platform’s fraud reporting tool,” officials said. “Players are encouraged to contact the CT Lottery directly with any questions. Only download the CT Lottery app through the links on our official website or through the app store.”
